Sautéed Green Beans

My mom is not a huge fan of green beans, but when she tasted these, she went back for another round. That’s really saying something. These are the easiest thing to make because you don’t have to do a lot of work and once you cover them with a lid to cook down, you don’t have to take any other steps. Set it and forget it. The lazy cook in me loves this method. They are a little spicy, not over the top, but enough to wake your tastebuds up. I love heat, but again, you can adjust this to your liking. These green beans cook quickly, so you can have a vegetable to accompany your main dish on the table, ready in no time. Everybody wins with this recipe. I hope you enjoy!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 lbs Green Beans
  • 1 Red Onion ((medium sized))
  • 2 tbs Olive Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/4 cup Water

Instructions

  1. Snap off the ends of your fresh green beans, and run them through cool water to rinse them off
  2. Slice your red onion. You should have pieces about 1/4 inch thick.
  3. In a pan over medium heat, heat up the olive oil. When the oil is hot, add the red onion and sauté for two minutes.
  4. Add in your green beans and sauté for another 5 minutes.
  5. Add in the salt, pepper, and garlic, and sauté for another 5 minutes.
  6. Add in your 1/4th cup of water, turn the flame down to medium/low, and cover for 10 minutes.
  7. Remove lid and stir. Serve.
